Scenario:

Why would you want to setup a SSH tunnel? Well there are a lot of good reasons! For one you could have it to circumnavigate the proxy at your work/school. This would allow you to view webpages that your proxy blocks and it is secure with a SSH tunnel on port 443 so know one would know what you were up to. Also it would allow you to connect to a remote machine using Microsoft Remote Desktop or VNC.  Additionally it gives you the ability to connect to your DD-WRT router from afar to make changes to it. This comes in handy when tweaking your VPN setup on the client router.
